PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) FOR HAIR LOSS

The PRP treatment involves injection of your own plasma into the scalp to promote hair restoration.

A revolutionary treatment

If you suffer from hair loss, you know it can be a frustrating and embarassing issue. Usually genetically pre-determined, hair loss can leave both men and womaen feeling helpless and desperate for a solution.

Our medical team at SpaMedics know how this can decrease your confiedence and they want to help. That’s why we are pleased to be offering PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for hair loss; a natural treatment that uses your own blood platelets for hair restoration.

The PRP treatment involves injection of your own plasma into the scalp to promote hair restoration.

Essentially, our blood is made up of two main components: red blood cells and plasma. Our plasma contains platelets, which provide essential growth factors that help promote healing and tissue repair.

Those growth factors help stimulate hair follicles and promote hair thickening and new hair growth. They work alongside your stem cells to jumpstart dormant hair back into the growth stage and reverse a process called miniaturization (essentially, the shrinking of hair follicles) that occurs when hair loss begins. Though not a cure for baldness, PRP can significantly slow down the effects and work to increase hair density.

Your treatment provider will begin by extracting a small sample of your blood, which is then placed into a centrifuge to separate your red blood cells from your plasma. Then, using a small syringe, the concentrated Platelet Rich Plasma is collected and injected directly into your scalp at the level of the hair follicle, in the areas that need improvent.

This process takes less than 30 minutes and involves minimal discomfort.

There is minimal downtime, if any associated with PRP for hair loss. Slight bruising may appear at the site of the injections but this usually resolves with in a week or two. You will also be advised to avoid harsh dyes or chemicals on your hair for 48 hours following your treatment.

The number of treatments required will be different for each patient but consistency is the key. Initially, we may recommend several treatments at one month intervals. Once your initial treatment series is complete, maintenance treatments may also be recommended 2-3 times per year.
